Piano Demolition

Not every piano needs to be tuned. Sometimes they just need to be put out of their misery. Took apart a 1955 Wurlitzer spinet yesterday for a client that is moving. Piano has not been played or tuned for years. Would have cost a few hundred dollars to get it back in tune and playable. Would be cheaper to get a free used piano. I offered to take it apart and disappear it for the client.

Took about 4 1/2 hours...220ish tuning pins take forever to remove by hand. I need to get a square socket for my impact driver and that would speed up the job quite a bit. Ended up taking 160 pounds of cast iron, bolts and screws to the scrap metal dealer...got a whopping $14! The harp was probably about 150 lbs by itself. Managed to get it into the back of my Nissan Kicks.

Decided if I do it again, I need to charge more. That was a long, hot, sweaty job.
