The number of tuning pins in a piano depends on the size and type of piano. A typical upright piano has around 200 tuning pins, while a grand piano can have around 230 to 250 tuning pins. The number of tuning pins corresponds to the number of strings in the piano, which varies according to the number of keys. For example, a standard grand piano with 88 keys will have 88 notes, and each note will have two or three strings, resulting in a total of around 230 to 250 tuning pins.
And that is why it takes 2-3 hours to tune your piano. We individually tune every string in the piano by putting a tuning hammer on each pin and adjusting the pitch of that string to the right pitch. It takes time but is worth it because your piano sings when we are done!
