I had the opportunity to tune a 1925 Howard piano down in Fredericktown. It was in very good condition for a 99 year old piano. Was in a beautiful 1893 Victorian house.
I could tell by looking at it that it has been well cared for. The last two octaves had new pins and strings installed sometime in the near past. A few strings around middle C had been replaced. And, it looked like the original ivory keys had been replaced. But, other than that it was all original.
I took out the action, cleaned the keys, removed a lot of dust and grime. Put it all back together and tuned it! The newer strings were causing some issues as they had loosened up and were very flat. The rest of the piano was only about 4¢ flat...very close to in tune.
Great adventure seeing a very old piano in a beautiful home...and another satisfied customer.
