It is not every day you get to tune a 114 year old piano that actually sounds pretty good. Tuned a 1909 Sterling piano built in Derby, CT.
Action had some wear and tear which is to be expected on a really old piano. One of the keys was not playing the way it should, so I took off the key slip to take a look. The key had been broken at some point in the past 100 years and repaired. But, the repair changed the key shape enough that it is not playing the same as its neighbors. It still plays, but not the same feel as the other keys.
Luckily, Sterling gave the owner a five year warranty, but it expired in 1914.
Well maintained and still sounds good in its second century!
